Exploring Phoenix: Family-friendly adventures under the sun

Mom and son during trip in Arizona.

Are you looking for somewhere sunny for the whole family this winter? Look no further than Phoenix, the Valley of the Sun. As someone who is lucky enough to frequent the area several times a year, I'm sharing the best family-friendly spots for you to check out. Dive into my recommendations below.

Desert Botanical Garden

First on my list is the Desert Botanical Garden, a living canvas of desert plants. Explore cacti and succulents while discovering special exhibits like the captivating butterfly display – a sure hit with the kiddos!

Musical Instrument Museum

The next stop is the Musical Instrument Museum, where hands-on experiences await. Play instruments from around the world and unleash your inner musician. Who knows, you might discover a new hidden talent in the family.

Phoenix Zoo

This isn't a typical zoo; it's a journey through different habitats and attractions. Feed giraffes, ride camels, and let the kids go wild in the splash pads. With themed events and interactive exhibits, it makes for a memorable day of animal antics for all ages.

Papago Park

Get outdoorsy at Papago Park with hiking trails, the iconic Hole-in-the-Rock, and picturesque lagoons. Papago Park is nature's playground with easy trails and activities suitable for family members of all ages to enjoy.

Chase Field

Cap off your adventure with classic American fun at Chase Field. Hot dogs, a seventh inning stretch, and maybe even a wave or two – it's the quintessential family experience.

Food recommendations

If you’re anything like me, finding restaurants and food options is always on your list of things to do before heading somewhere new. Here are a few of my suggestions on places to eat around Phoenix:

  • Breakfast or brunch: The Montauk is the perfect spot to gather and start your day. Never fear parents, they have delicious mimosas to sip on too.

  • Snack time: If you're in search of a craft beer and some board games for the kids, head over to SanTan Brewing. Order some apps that will hold over everyone until dinner.

  • Dinner: Check out Manuel’s which has multiple restaurants in the area and a wide variety of choices just for kids. My favorite menu item? The taco salad.
