Looking for a quick escape packed with big views, small-town charm, and one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders? Buffalo delivers. With our nonstop flights from Minneapolis, it’s easy to land in Western New York and be on your way to waterfalls, wine country, and lakeside gems—all just a short drive from the gate.

Let’s dive in. Here’s why Buffalo makes a great starting point for your next getaway:

Where to Stay  (Downtown Buffalo)

Street view of tall art deco building under blue sky. A "Franklin" street sign and traffic lights are visible. Few cars are present.

Stay downtown  to be close to Buffalo’s growing food scene, waterfront walking paths, and restored historic buildings. It’s a great home base for urban exploring—and makes day tripping easy. Plus, it’s only 20 minutes from the airport.

Looking for something quieter? Stay in nearby Lewiston or East Aurora for a small-town pace and cozy B&Bs that still keep you close to the action.

Must-Visit Attractions

Waterfall cascading into mist, city skyline with tall buildings in the background. Greenery and a clear blue sky create a serene mood.

Niagara Falls (30 minutes north)

It’s big, bold, and bucket list-worthy. Walk along the overlook, ride the Maid of the Mist, or just soak in the power of it all from the walking and hiking trails.

Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruise (35 minutes northeast)  This working canal is a slice of history in motion. Hop on a boat cruise and watch how boats navigate the famous lock system.

Letchworth State Park (1 hour southeast)  Nicknamed the “Grand Canyon of the East,” this park has dramatic gorges, waterfalls, and trails galore. Ideal for a day in the fresh air.

Culinary Highlights

Buffalo isn’t just about the wings (though we fully support grabbing a dozen at Anchor Bar):

The Grange Community Kitchen (Hamburg): Modern comfort food with serious flavor, housed in a converted historic building.

Bar-Bill Tavern (East Aurora): A local institution for wings, beef on weck, and that classic upstate NY pub feel.

Public Espresso (Downtown Buffalo): Grab a morning latte and pastry before hitting the road.

Unique Experiences

Map showing multiple orange location pins across Orleans County, near Niagara Falls and Rochester. Displays roads, cities, and natural parks.

Niagara Wine Trail: Dozens of wineries dot the countryside northeast of Buffalo—offering tastings of Rieslings, fruit wines, and more in a low-key, scenic setting.

Roycroft Campus (East Aurora): A National Historic Landmark and a haven for American Arts & Crafts architecture and artistry.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House: Architecture buffs will love this restored Prairie-style masterpiece in the city.

Outdoor Adventures

Chestnut Ridge Park: Hiking trails and a hidden waterfall just 30 minutes south.

Beaver Island State Park (Grand Island): Sandy beaches, picnic spots, and views of the Niagara River—perfect for a quiet afternoon.

Bike the Shoreline Trail: Bring or rent a bike and cruise along Lake Erie from Buffalo’s Outer Harbor up to Tonawanda.
