Though they are barely an hour apart, Washington D.C. and Baltimore are distinct in their offerings and culture. While D.C. is best known for its world-class museums, legendary monuments, and government landmarks, Baltimore is known for its Inner Harbor, Maryland crab, and being the birthplace of the national anthem. Due to their close proximity, travelers can easily visit both cities with convenient access via train. Washington D.C.

The Smithsonian Institution is the largest museum, education, and research complex in the world. Admission at all Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C. are free of charge and open every day of the year except December 25.

Get a tour of the U.S. Capitol
Go inside one of the nation's most recognizable buildings and learn about more than 200 years of history. Tours are free of charge, but reservations are recommended.
Before traveling, your member of congress may be able to assist with tickets for the Capitol or White House tours. It's recommended that requests are made 3-6 months in advance by filling out an online request form or calling their office.

Best known for the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812, this historical site offers many educational programs for the whole family. Fun fact: this battle inspired Francis Scott Key to compose what would later become the U.S. national anthem.

Take a day trip to Annapolis
Maryland’s capital city is just an hour from Baltimore. Known as the “Sailing Capital of the U.S.,” visitors can tour the historic US Naval Academy, view the beautiful ships that line Annapolis Dock, or even go for a sunset sail.
