Sun on your face, sand between your toes, and a pool that seems to stretch forever: welcome to the kind of Caribbean escape that makes you forget the world exists for a few days. One of the best parts of my job is getting to explore destinations and then sharing the spots, experiences, and little surprises that make them unforgettable.
My latest adventure took me to the Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa, located in Lucea (pronounced “Lucy”), about 45 minutes west of the Montego Bay airport. Co-located with the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort & Spa, both offer a vibrant, all-encompassing Caribbean experience that blends luxury, variety, and breathtaking scenery. The moment you arrive, you're greeted by views of the ocean, and an impressive pool that is one of the largest in the Caribbean. The beaches are pristine, with soft white sand and calm, clear waters perfect for swimming or lounging under the sun.

Dining here is a journey around the world. With 10 restaurants offering everything from sizzling Indian dishes to fresh seafood and authentic Jamaican flavors, every meal is unique. I never made it close to trying all the options, but the “Xaymaica” Jamaican Restaurant was my favorite. If you’re feeling a bit more casual, two large buffet restaurants offer a wide variety of food options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. With 13 bars scattered across the property, from lively beach bars to the Miss Lou Bar that feels more like a British pub than a Jamaican resort, there’s always a perfect place to toast the moment.
Room choices are just as diverse. I stayed in an oceanfront suite, but I toured the property and saw everything from romantic bungalows to spacious family suites, to swim-up rooms with a private pool. Each one felt thoughtfully designed, with modern touches and island charm. I’d absolutely recommend an Ocean Front room; sipping morning coffee while taking in this view quickly became one of my favorite moments from the trip.

Beyond the resort, Jamaica has so much to explore. From its vibrant music and art scene to the flavors of jerk chicken, Blue Mountain coffee, and locally made rum, there is something for every traveler. History buffs will love Fort Charlotte in Lucea, an 18th-century British fort overlooking the harbor. Adventure seekers can chase waterfalls and mineral springs at Blue Hole near Ocho Rios, hike the scenic Blue Mountains, or soak up sun and snorkeling at Negril’s famous Seven Mile Beach and cliffs.
Last but certainly not least, the beaches. With four separate beach areas, it never feels too busy. Plus, each of them has a bar nearby so you don’t need to go far to find some refreshment. My personal favorite was Sunset Cove Beach on the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort & Spa side. As the name suggests, it’s located in a small cove which has crystal clear, calm waters. It doesn’t get any better than this.
