To celebrate the spirit of flight and achievements in aviation, President Franklin D. Roosevelt established National Aviation Day in 1939 to honor the legacy of the Wright brothers' historic first flight. Since then, National Aviation Day has recognized the important contributions of aviators and industry professionals who have transformed the way we travel and explore our skies.
This year, Sun Country employees celebrated the day by getting a behind the scenes look at a variety of operational organizations and exploring departments outside their normal day to day.
To start, attendees visited the bag room located at T2. Employees had the chance to observe the bag process from initial check-in to storage in the belly of the plane. Furthermore, participants were able to learn more about bag operations and the systems used to track bags from their point of origin to their ultimate destination.
Participants also got the opportunity to meet with Brian Roseen, system chief pilot, to learn about our team of captains and first officers and chat with our security team to get a deep dive into the daily processes that keep our employees and passengers safe and secure. Employees were also able to learn about the important duties of our above wing gate and customer service agents who check in passengers, check bags, and perform the boarding process at the gate.
Participants then visited the Airport Command Center (ACC) to learn more about plane loads, fueling needs, and the steps taken to ensure a smooth flight. They got the opportunity to interact with the team responsible for monitoring real-time aircraft statuses and coordinating responses to ensure efficient handling of all airport-related activities.
At the end of the tour, COO Greg Mays and CEO Jude Bricker took questions from participants and talked about future planning for the airline.
We use Aviation Day as an opportunity to honor the passion and dedication of our employees that drive our airline forward and reflect on our shared mission to ensure safe, reliable air travel to our passengers.
