Watch Ebenezer talk to STARBASE fifth graders about his journey

Each year on May 24, the aviation industry recognizes the skilled professionals who keep our fleet flying safely and efficiently—our team of Aviation Maintenance Technicians (AMTs). We are proud to celebrate the dedication, precision, and hard work of our exceptional team of AMTs and support staff. These behind-the-scenes pros play a critical role in ensuring the reliability of every flight and the safety of our passengers. Today, we honor their commitment to excellence, their extensive technical expertise, and the essential contributions they make to our success.

“As I marvel at the complexity of our business, it stirs an overwhelming sense of pride in the teamwork, agility, and resilience demanded,” said Stephen Coley, SVP & Interim Head of Operations. “Providing our customers with a safe, reliable, and predictable product is no small feat.”

As we highlight our team of AMTs, it's important to recognize the paths that lead these skilled professionals to their critical roles—paths often inspired by a love of aviation, mechanics, and curiosity about how things work.

Recently, we worked with our partners at STARBASE MN to showcase one of our Aviation Service Technicians (ASTs), Ebenezer, who is on a career path to becoming an AMT. Their video series aims to introduce students to a variety of roles that utilize STEM and help them understand how education and hands on experience can lead them to attainable and rewarding careers.

Airport worker in uniform gives thumbs-up on tarmac. Orange aircraft and white truck in background. Clear sky, positive mood.

Growing up, Ebenezer attended STARBASE with his elementary school class, developed an interest in technology, and was inspired in his career by his uncle who worked in baggage operations at the Minneapolis-St.Paul International Airport. Recently, he graduated from Minneapolis College’s Aircraft Maintenance Technician program and will be taking his oral and practical examination later this year to get his Aircraft & Powerplant (A&P) license. His work here as an AST has provided him with real world experience and integral knowledge needed to continue on his career track.

As we recognize our AMTs-and all of our Technical Operations and Maintenance department professionals-dedication and skill, this day also serves to inspire the next generation of technicians to pursue a career that combines technical expertise, problem-solving, and a critical role in keeping air travel safe for everyone.

Thank you AMTs!
