Have a trip coming up and looking for some packing tips and tricks? Who better to get it from than a seasoned flight attendant and avid traveler. We asked one of our flight attendants, Traci, to share some of her favorite packing tricks she’s picked up over her 18-year long career at Sun Country Airlines.

Plan ahead:

  • Make a list of what you need to pack. For an extended trip, start packing well ahead of time to give yourself the opportunity to reassess the contents of your bag(s).

  • Look at the weather predictions for your destination to help you decide what to pack. If the radar is showing potential rain, it would be a good reminder to pack an umbrella or rain jacket!

  • Consider your plans for your trip. Hiking or camping, visiting museums, and having a fancy dinner in the city all require completely different packed essentials.

  • Try to have most of your clothing versatile, neutral and layered.

  • Bring shoes to match your desired foot comfort and the amount of walking in your itinerary.

  • Pack extra plastic bags for wet clothes, dirty shoes, etc.

Carry-on essentials:

  • Pack some wipes to wipe down your seating area/table on the plane.

  • Bring a small blanket or sweatshirt to keep you warm on the plane in case you get chilly!

  • Bring an empty large refillable water bottle to fill once you get through the security checkpoint.

Saving space in your suitcase:

  • Fill any empty gaps, such as stuffing shoes with socks.

  • Roll clothes to minimize wrinkles.

  • Put your beach hat in the suitcase first and pack around it to avoid it being crushed.

  • If you are planning to buy souvenirs, leave home with room in your bag or put your bag inside of a bigger bag in case you need both bags on the way back.

  • Separate similar items such as toiletries, cosmetics, socks, and undergarments in clear bags to keep your essentials organized and easy to locate.

Try out some of Traci’s tricks while packing for your next trip to make travel a breeze. If you don’t have a trip planned, there are plenty of cities waiting to welcome you! Get To Going.
