Tropics Days at the Minnesota Zoo is all about seeing the world through curious eyes. This year, we’re partnering with the Zoo to turn a walk along the Tropics Trail into a travel-inspired adventure for families.

Join us February 28–March 1 and March 7–8 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. to explore, collect stamps, and earn your special explorer prize. With a Sun Country Tropics Passport in hand, kids and parents can explore animals found in regions we fly to, collect stamps along the way, and wrap it all up with a special explorer prize back at our table.

Check out where you can stop while on the trail:

Caribbean Rainforests: Birds

Bright colors, bold calls, and constant motion make birds some of the most eye-catching animals on the Tropics Trail. Tropical rainforests are often called the lungs of the earth, and birds play a big role in keeping these ecosystems healthy through pollination and pest control.

As families spot flamingos and other tropical birds at the Zoo, they’re also getting a glimpse of environments found in Caribbean destinations we fly to, including Cancun, San Juan, and Punta Cana.

Pacific Ocean Coastline

The ocean connects the world in powerful ways, and this stop brings that connection to life. Oceans help regulate temperature, absorb carbon dioxide, and support an incredible range of marine species. Along the Pacific Ocean Coastline at the Zoo, kids can look for fish, rays, and other sea life while learning how important healthy oceans are to our planet. This area ties directly to our routes along Mexico’s Pacific coast, including Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatlan.

Caribbean Rainforests: Primates

Primates often steal the show, and for good reason. From quiet moments in the trees to energetic bursts of movement, these mammals offer endless opportunities to observe and learn. On the Tropics Trail, families can watch primates up close while thinking about the rainforest regions they come from, including destinations like Costa Rica and other tropical areas we serve.

After visiting all three animal areas and collecting every stamp, explorers can head back to the Sun Country table to celebrate with a special prize. It’s a small moment that feels big, especially after a day filled with discovery.

In addition to the passport activity, we’re happy to partner again with the Minnesota Zoo on a towel giveaway, building on the success of last year’s event. Guests are welcome to bring in gently used towels to exchange for a new Sun Country travel-branded towel, while supplies last. Donated towels will be used by the animal care team to aid in a variety of behind-the-scenes purposes, from creating cozy dens to offering stimulating nesting materials.

Tropics Days is about sparking curiosity and showing families that adventure comes in many forms. Join us for two weekends of discovery, February 28–March 1 and March 7–8, from 9am - 2pm. See you there!
